Trans resources in NYC

I’m often asked about where to find trans resources in New York, New Jersey, and surrounding areas, so I’ve built this list of resources for my clients and the larger NYC trans community. Thank you to the clients and colleagues who have recommended resources. Please note that while I do my best to keep these listings accurate and updated, I do not have firsthand experience with every professional or resource listed.

If you’d like to add a resource to this list, if you’ve found an inaccuracy, or if you’ve had a bad experience with a professional or organization listed, please let me know.

Q. What’s the Informed Consent Model and how does it affect me?

A. The Informed Consent Model of transgender healthcare allows patients seeking gender-affirming hormone therapy to access it without obtaining a letter of support from a mental health professional. At clinics that follow this model, you’ll be assessed and counseled on the risks and benefits of hormone therapy (usually by a doctor or nurse), but you will not need an evaluation from a psychotherapist, psychiatrist, or psychologist. Most of the clinics on this list follow the Informed Consent Model for adults. While I’m happy to offer my therapy clients letters of support for hormone therapy, and to offer single-session hormone therapy evaluations for those who do not require ongoing psychotherapy, it may not be needed depending on your age and whether your clinic follows this model.
