About me

Andrew Triska, LCSW (he/him)

In over a decade of practice, my experience includes a wide range of work in New York’s mental healthcare systems. I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, hoarding, and related disorders, especially in queer and trans clients.

My published work include 2021’s Amazon Best Seller Gender Identity Workbook for Teens and the forthcoming OCD: When Treatment Doesn’t Work from New Harbinger Publications. Outside the office, I’m a distance runner, fiction writer, and wine journalist. I’m proud to be a bisexual and trans therapist.

My treatment approach focuses on big, difficult questions about meaning, choice, and life’s limitations; my therapeutic style balances practical challenges and high expectations with warmth, humor, and safety. Though existential psychotherapy is my primary approach, my technique is informed by training in exposure and response prevention (ERP), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and internal family systems (IFS) modalities.

I might be the right therapist for you if…

  • You don’t just want to talk—you want to do something practical between sessions that engages meaningfully with the problems you’re facing

  • You’ve been trying to confront painful, fear-inducing thoughts, but your brain doesn’t seem to want to let you

  • You want to go at your own pace in therapy, and you feel like past therapists have rushed you to do things that made you uncomfortable

  • You need your therapist to understand how oppressive structural realities have affected your life (and that this isn’t something you can just “get over,” “forgive,” or “move past”)

  • You’re queer or trans and want a therapist who will treat you as an individual, not as a demographic

  • You’re looking for a neurodivergent therapist who won’t tell you to cure your ADHD by buying a planner

Press coverage

If you want help figuring gender identity out for yourself and are someone who needs or likes focused, tangible reflection and step-by-step walkthroughs get you there, this new workbook is DEEPLY great for that. I’m 51 years old and have had a good handle on sorting out who I am over time and I am setting aside some time for myself so that I can get to do this freaking awesome workbook for my own self. It’s so good.

Shameless dog GIF

The dog’s name is Broccoli. He is not a therapy dog because he is terrible.

That sounds harsh, but if you met him, you’d understand.
