Anxiety treatment

Pop culture tells us that anxiety is inherently a bad thing, or that we need to banish it with coping skills like meditation, relaxation, or self-care. But what if running toward anxiety could take you places you didn’t think were possible?

Therapy can work by helping you to teach your brain to feel safe and comfortable in challenging situations so you can get back to doing the things you enjoy—or do them for the first time. We’ll use empirically supported cognitive and behavioral methods based on safe, gentle exposure to situations that make you anxious.

In addition to the nitty-gritty behavioral stuff, my treatment approach involves insight into the ways trauma—big and small—has affected your life. We won’t just talk about the anxious surface thoughts and behaviors that bother you. We’ll talk about the meaning of your anxiety in relation to your bigger, deeper conflicts and the past experiences that have shaped these fears. If you feel like you’re constantly fighting your own brain, or that different parts of you are afraid of different things, therapy can help you have a more productive conversation with yourself and move forward with more confidence.
